Description
In this policy brief, Andreas Ufen analyzes the outcome of the presidential election in Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, and points out what Jokowi’s victory means for the country’s transition towards democracy. In his view, the election could be a wake-up call for the entire region of Southeast Asia, where most countries are ruled by more or less authoritarian regimes. Indonesia could become the regional example of a relatively successful transition to democracy.
