The first Corona wave was a stress test for hospitals. In Germany, large parts of intensive care capacity were reserved for Covid 19 patients, and the already high number of intensive care beds was further expanded.
The Bertelsmann Stiftung asked foreign experts how their countries have dealt with the rush to hospitals. Experts from Denmark, Sweden, Spain and Israel reported from their countries and clarified that the German path during the first Corona wave was by no means the only viable one.

Neuordnung Krankenhaus-Landschaft

Das Projekt hatte zum Ziel, den Prozess der qualitätsorientierten Neuausrichtung der stationären Gesundheitsversorgung zu unterstützen. Dazu haben wir in verschiedenen Studien beschrieben, wie es um den Status quo der Krankenhausversorgung bestellt ist und haben ein Zielbild entwickelt, das eine zukunftsfähige und am Bedarf der Bürgerinnen und Bürger ausgerichteten Kliniklandschaft beschreibt. In einer Simulation haben wir exemplarisch gezeigt, wie sich die heutige Kliniklandschaft verändern müsste, wenn man die Qualität der Versorgung langfristig sichern will.
